NOW, that rating is a little ironic isn't it?
What I'm trying to say is, this blog post is about the not so appealing immaturity of some users of the internet(social media in particular) but this is intended for mature readers who has a better understanding of the internet as a useful means to communicate and share thoughts and ideas.well because there are lot of global events that occurred recently (NBA 2013 finals the most recent) the social media now, has become a war zone.
And there are different types of keyboard warriors that excel in their own abilities on how are they gonna draw their sword of ideas, shoot the bullet of words and launch the missile of swear, curse, cuss, whatever you call that sh*t (lol, a pun) in the social media warzone by way of tweets, Facebook statuses and Youtube comments.
Now, those three websites have their own versions of "comment war" (tweet war in twitter's case) and I will TRY to sort out the types of internet tough guys I noticed (and I think some have noticed it too) in those social networks.
The Assassin
This netizen is the type of internet tough guy that targets a particular individual in a flood of comments.
This one takes his time observing all those battling about who's point is correct. This guy understands that there are those he can't outsmart which he'll choose not to engage and there are those who are stupid enough to make themselves vulnerable to his attack.
He usually mentions that person's name and when he sees the opportunity he'll launch his attack (of words) and play one on one against the stupid one and because he did surveillance, he knows how and where to hit his target (with words of course), which will result into him prevailing over the latter.
The Spartan
The head on attacker, the reckless one, the toughest (because he doesn't care about the others' opinion, and he always thinks he is correct) and when he fix his eyes on you prepare yourself for a loooooooong thread.
Whether this guy is right or wrong, he will stand by his belief, that you are a stupid moron and has absolutely no idea, what the hell you're talking about.
He's gonna kick you in the arse if he had the chance to. This one is the type of comment warrior that uses the foulest of words, the most hurting insults and usually starts his comments with the words (You are such a stupid fool).
This is an internet tough guy who doesn't really care about what people think, he's always has that attitude of he's always gonna win and he's gonna do it in a sort of violent fashion (over the internet of course).
The Gangsta
Sup yo' y'all ain't got nuthin', tis' da s*** right here!
Yeah, I'm not as "gangsta" as you get, and that was a poor attempt to be one, anyway this keyboard warrior instead of using guns, he uses words of the gangsta dialect (you can google some terms if you want to).
They are quite similar to the spartans however, these net warriors uses their own language, the gangsta language, ya dig? (okay another poor attempt) and they tend to get off topic and talk about themselves and just go on and insult, curse and talk about how they are the better men and how are they above y'all (that would be my last attempt). Overall, these guys are like the spartans, but with a different dialect.
I personally don't engage with this type of keyboard warrior because there's absolutely no chance that the conversation will end well.
The Politician
Unlike the previous two, this one actually is the kind of internet tough guy that uses proper words, the one that uses facts, statistics, etc. and this guy actually recognizes one's opinion but since this is about comment wars I'll focus on the methods how he engage with another netizen.
He can be a man of peace, or a man of war either way, this particular keyboard warrior usually gets people agree with him because he really does make sense.
As a man of peace, he attempts to unify the netizens by diplomatic ideas like "respecting someone's opinion" or "people are great in their own way", he keeps his words neutral and usually his comments are intended to all active users in the thread, he is the diplomat and he can win the netizen's hearts that can end a long argument.
As a man of war, he chooses one side (the right side most of the time) and uses actual facts and events that occurred which usually serves as the fatal blow to end a long thread of comment war, he is the general in which his soldiers will follow his lead and back his words that are agreeable.
The politician usually has the longest comment or maximizes the use of the 140 character limit of twitter.
The Escape artist
The masters of social media escapology.
Once they lost an argument, they vanish, they will not respond to a thread anymore and that will serve as the end of the comment wars.
Or maybe not.
Some of these guys don't lay down their weapon of words easily, just when you think the comment war is over another status or tweet will just pop up somewhere else, this happens in twitter most of the time and the escape artist will turn into twitter soldier.
most of the time twitter is their escape route because they are more exposed in facebook and most people in the comment war zone they were in are strangers, almost 90 percent of them are not their Twitter followers (and it has a 140 character limit so it's not a good idea to start an argument over it).
Some must have ran out of words to say, or some might chose not to engage, either way this is a working of a social media escape artist.
CONCLUSION
The social media serves as a tool to connect and to make friends but unfortunately, it's turning into a war zone.
Sharing one's opinion is not really a bad thing and some will say "I have a right to say what I want to say because we are in a free country" but we have to be wise and think of words that we're going to say and at least come up with an intelligent or creative way to share our thoughts because truth is, a lot of people use the social media irresponsibly.
We have to keep in mind that in the internet, we are totally exposed (unless you change your privacy settings) and anything we say can be used against us so, don't be stupid.
(I want to thank my friend Mark Daquiz for lending me his photo for the politician), haha follow him at https://twitter.com/djmarkd09)
